American breakfast.
Conor, Kelsey, Helen, and Ara eating American breakfastKoreans know how to do lunch and they know how to do dinner, but Koreans don't know how to do breakfast. There really isn't a breakfast category in Korea--most Koreans eat soup, noodles, or rice for breakfast. The concept of cereal and toast (don't even think about eggs, bacon, and hashed browns!) is only just starting to catch fire. But being big fans of the Western idea of breakfast...and having tried an English breakfast for the first time a few weeks back...
Paul and I decided to make American breakfast for our non-American (and American) friends. This, in our minds, would include pancakes (which we made just about every weekend on our electric griddle last year), scrambled eggs, home fries, and bacon. So, though bacon is rare here, we did find a couple packages at the foreign food store downtown.
Paul ended up cooking the entire masterpiece (well, I made the bacon). He made about 75 silver dollar pancakes, 2 kinds of scrambled eggs (1. cheesy scrambled eggs, 2. cheesy scrambled eggs with peppers and onions), and, a new Goodell creation, "mashed browns" (he accidentally cooked the potatoes a bit too long and so they ended up tasting more like mashed potatoes (with onions and peppers thrown in), but they were great!). I thought it was quite delectable and I think everyone else agreed...
