Jong Mahn and Viviana.

These are our friends from Gyodong Church, Jong Mahn and Viviana. Jong Mahn is the one who eagerly sought us out during our first weeks in Sokcho. Their English is very good because they spent time living in the States. Their daughter lives in California. When we get together, we invariably get to talking about the U.S.A. at some point or another. They've traveled to many states we are familiar with, which is nice.

Recently we had them over to our house for lunch. They had had us over several times already, so we felt it was time. So last Thursday, we made them spaghetti, salad, french bread, and strawberries. We also showed them pictures of our families and talked about Easter. It ended up being too short a visit (since we both had to leave to go teach), but it was good to have them see our place. They enjoyed the food though they thought all the raw vegetables in the salad were a bit strange. Apparently, Koreans don't eat many raw vegetables. So I let Viviana skip over the zucchini :)

They were very sweet and brought us a gift (for having them over)! A new umbrella and a bottle of their homemade wine. They are tremendously kind folks and we are glad to be getting to know them better.

This has nothing to do with JM and Viviana, but I thought I'd show you a pic of our first batch of Korean pancakes! (Look a little dark, don't they?)
