Sam and Chi HyunToday our colleague Kris (one of the Korean teachers) had us over to his house in Bupyong (north of our place, right on the sea and near Kangwon University) for a barbeque lunch. He supplied some of the meat, Chinese food, and a great picnic venue on the deck of his building. Paul and I headed over on the bus with Ara and Conner and met up with Chi Hyun, her two daughters, Sam, and her son Jay and daughter Joy. Kris's dog, Claire, happily entertained the kids while the rest of us prepared (or sampled) the food. Kris's place has a beautiful view of the ocean, where he frequently fishes on weekends. It was great to be with friends and enjoy sweet and sour chicken, kimchi, mandu, grilled chicken and pork marinated in orange juice, soy sauce, and spices (thank you Ara), crab salad, vegetable pancakes, and tuna rolls. A little bit of rain was thwarted by persistent sunshine.
After a filling lunch, we headed into Kris's place to escape from the wind and digest. While Kevin (Kris's son, and a very sweet guy) kept the kids occupied in his room, Kris played a very sad Korean love song on his guitar and sang for us. We joked around for a while, and then headed home on the bus. It was a lovely afternoon.
