Fish bread happiness.
What you see above is called bungeopang. It is one of the many snacks sold on the street by Korean food vendors. These delightful little fish are filled with your choice of red bean paste or custard (I always go for the custard--or "cream-a", as they call it). Well, I've been told that bungeopang are only available during the colder months, so I'm surprised that they're still around. But there's a woman outside of Buyoung (our apartment complex) that sells them. I've become quite addicted, especially since you can get 4 for 1,000 won ($1).I guess she appreciates my business, because today she gave me 5 instead of 4! I was very pleased by this. Since in Korea you don't haggle and all Koreans are selling the same thing for the same price, the way to "get a deal" so to speak is to build up loyalty with a particular seller. We have a fruit vendor that we're trying the same experiment with. Oftentimes she gives us an extra orange, or apple, or even free cumquats when we stop by.
Thank you, fish bread lady!
