Recognize these?
Here are some famous chains I found in Chuncheon. I doubt you'll recognize the first one, but I just had to include it--I laughed pretty hard when I saw the name of the store. South Korea is very very fashion-conscious, and Western influence is quite evident. Sokcho is small enough that there aren't too many major chains there (only Pizza Hut, as far as I know)...yet.
The "Sexy Cookie" lingerie shop.
Good 'ole KFC--I don't believe Korea has banned trans-fats yet...
Baskin Robbins--note that the banner reads "Grand Open". Sadly (but often to our great amusement), there are egregious English errors like this on signs and in text all over Korea.
Ah...Dunkin' Donuts. Paul was ecstatic to find donuts that were actually sweet here, as well as good coffee. Koreans aren't generous with sugar the way Westerners are, and their version of coffee is instant coffee in individual packets that already contain the cream and sugar. Regular coffee like we're used to is actually rare and expensive here...my father wouldn't last 6 hours under such conditions!
