First Day Finished!

Well, I've finished my first round of classes--and I'm pooped! The institute where we teach has two locations, and since they are looking for an additional English teacher, I am pinch-hitting at the other school. So I teach 3 classes for younger children (elementary-school kids) and then I hightail it to the other location to teach middle school/high school kids (3 more classes). Paul is at the second location for the entire time. There is a ten-minute break between each class, and we have a twenty-minute break for dinner.

Each class uses a different book, so it makes for interesting planning. Since this was the first day, we mostly did introductions and games--boy am I grateful for pictionary! It's tough getting the kids to talk, mostly because we're new to them and a lot of them are shy. But some of the kids are quite rambunctious and I can tell I'm going to have to assert myself with them (mainly the boys).

Today we met the other teachers--Kirsty, Ara, and Christopher. Kirsty is from Australia and Ara is from the US. Chris is from China. They're all extremely friendly and helpful, and it sure does feel good to know a few more people! There are two other teachers (also Chinese) that we met, but sadly, I don't recall their names. I also met the director's husband and his son, Yon-Sei, who is in one of my classes (and one of Paul's). We also ordered in for lunch, and Paul and I had our first taste of Korean food--I had bibimbap and Paul had beef something. Take-out here is very inexpensive and the secretary does it for you if you ask her. I liked my dish, but I can tell Korean food is going to be spicy! Bibimbap is a mixture of rice, vegetables, meat, with a fried egg on top.

All of the kids are good, but it's definitely easier teaching the older ones. Most of them know more English and they're...well...calmer :)

Well, I should start prepping for tomorrow! Good-night!
