We made it!

Well folks, Paul and I safely made it to Sokcho. We had a 14-hour flight on Asiana (from Chicago) and then a 4-hour car trip to Sokcho (from Seoul). Our director met us at our apartment, which is on the 7th floor of a very large building. We've been settling in and figuring out how to work our appliances (which have buttons all in Korean) and our heating system. It's quite chilly here! No snow, but it's cold. So, we appreciate our heated floors.

We're noticing our lack of Korean language skills and note that we need to be studying in our spare time. It's tough not being able to comunicate with our neighbors and other people around town, even those that want to help us. We do a lot of miming.

We haven't done too much sightseeing yet, mostly because we're still catching up on sleep. But hopefully we'll get a better view of the lovely coast and mountains nearby. We are 13 hours ahead of EST. Tomorrow we will look for a church to attend--there is a large Methodist church nearby.

And on Tuesday, we begin teaching!! We just met with our director to go over the curriculum and the classes. It should be interesting! I think we're both a little nervous and excited to get started. Also, then we'll get to meet the other foreign teachers, who are away on holiday right now in the Philippines.

Well, it's time for us to find some dinner--perhaps some kimchi?! We're grateful you stopped by and we'll be posting more soon (though there might be a slight delay because of our lack of internet access temporarily). Have a Happy New Year!
